To Those Who [Really] Keep Us Safe...
Nov 11, 2024
What's up?
On that note just out of the shower having kicked off "Ride for Remembrance" at the lovely Cricketers in Easton - where they have organised a charity ride of 72 hours non-stop pedalling... Donations to RBL. Brilliant idea, massive kudos to Andrew and team. Enjoyed a FFFabulous pint of We'll Meet Again afterwards - I really got fresh clean mandarin on the palate - damn good - the perfect complex carbohydrate to restore lost energy! https://www.facebook.com/reel/868833188792442 ... Pleased to be able to support our veterans - honouring those who keep us safe is something we as a country do well, but maybe not as well as our cousins across the pond... More about that at the very bottom...
What's On?
Comfortably Numb is back. Single digit casks of Little Red Rooster left. We'll Meet Again all went as expected. Tiny bit of Respect left (but out for all intents and purposes). Snow Blind [Oatmeal Stout version] out likely next week.
What's About?
We had a visit from Elf and Safety this week. It was agonising and frankly heartbreaking at their pettiness, bureaucracy, condescension, rudeness and imagination which went to events that sit about 75,000 standard deviations from the norm under a normal distribution. I guess it is their job, but another awful example of governmental machinery pouring sand into machinery we have just cleaned and oiled so to speak. SO HARD for British businesses... In the ranking table Environmental Health were ok and reasonable to deal with [plus we got a 5 which helps]; the Minimum Wage folks were atrocious - total time wasters [we pay above - just need to look at payroll - and not a squeak from them since then] and right at the bottom by some margin (so far) are H&S.
We take H&S REALLY seriously and have kept updated something like 30 different policies including Manual handling, Modern Day Slavery, Stress in the Workplace, Harassment in the Workplace, Lone Working Policy, Hygiene policy, Equality and Diversity, Fire, Anti-bribery and Corruption, Chemical Handling, Forklift Driving, Fire inspections, Asbestos policies and registers, PAT tests and all the requisite risk analyses as well... just to name a few - etc. etc... Anyway GRRRRRR!
Hope you are spared from these people and makes we wonder who will be the next government agency to harass us? I get that there is nothing common about common sense, but when a nanny state tries to take responsibility for everything, then the need to actually have any is abrogated...
Rant over. Sorry! In the big scheme of things given the P.S. at the top - yes this might cause some stress, but perspective is needed...
Wish you a fffabulous weekend, hope we can bring you some beer and most importantly... "lest we forget",
Xen
