Swaps...
Mar 28, 2025
What’s Up? BUSY! Racking off lots of beer this past week, delivering LOTS of beer this past week - 3 new pubs to us, but the real change has been volume - most who take 2 casks have upped to 3, usually (but not always opting for 2 the same and one different). Nothing crazy but a good week and a lot of demand for Alton’s Pride following the SIBA awards… Cool. Happy. A little stressed, but happy. Hoping for a good Mother's Day your end and happy Mother's Day to all the mums out there!
We are doing our first beer swap in many, many years...
We have swapped some beer with the marvellous Milton Brewery in Cambridge and next week will have their
Nike - 4.7% Ruby Nike - Milton Brewery - Untappd
Minerva - 4.6% Golden Minerva - Milton Brewery - Untappd
Pegasus - 4.1% Copper Pegasus - Milton Brewery - Untappd
In limited quantities as something different - only in Firkins - and happy to get you some of them, but they do need to come "stapled" to an order of our beer as well please. Fun?✅ Interesting? ✅Different?✅ Cool? ✅
What's On?
(need to get these 2 added to the poster!)
Both are going out the door faster than we can make them at the moment (because being brewed on the smaller brew kit) - so please be swift!
What's About?
Up at SIBA it was great to see CAMRA presenting on the future of pubs - Ash Corbert-Collins (a lot of names but an on-it guy) the new CAMRA Chair was pretty refreshing - his a much younger guy than you would think might fill the post, energetic and deeply passionate about pubs... SIBA too are lobbying hard. My conversations with their lobbiests were initially focussed around VAT as what I perceive as the easiest way to make things more affordable for folks and get them back in pubs. Apparently this when exercised in COVID cost the govt too much money and is not the angle most of the lobby groups are pressing.
Where they are pressing is on the subject of fairly taxing things like online gaming - talking about levelling the playing field etc.. Candidly though I felt that they - the lobbiests - proposals are maybe overly optimistic - I mean they might get some action on business rates, but on all the other things (minimum wage, NICs, energy cost am not holding my breath. On beer duty relief, I can't see it coming in enough size to make a difference. Here is hoping that some of the other proposals stick - but then again, hope ain't a strategy.
Hoping you have a terrific Mother's Day weekend, and we can bring you some beer next week.

P.S.
Mother's Day...
Two children ordered their mother to stay in bed one Mother's Day morning. As she lay there, looking forward to breakfast in bed, the smell of bacon floated up from the kitchen.
But after a good long wait, she finally went downstairs to investigate. She found them both sitting at the table eating bacon and eggs.
"As a surprise for Mother's Day," one explained, "we decided to cook our own breakfast."
[that could be my house....!]
Sorry, not sorry - have a lovely weekend!
